Workshop - Lubrication

Details for this section are for the Lambretta 175 Li Series 1 and 2 however there are many similarities between these models and other models of Lambretta threewheelers/Lambros. This information and the pictures included are provided from the 'Instructions for Repair Shops' for these models published in 1963. It is intended for informational purposes and we would recommend seeking professional advice before undertaking anything described in the Workshop section.

Lubrication

When greasing the leaf spring link pins, and the hydraulic brake pedal, use a pressure grease gun and insert grease until clean grease comes out of the pin ends.

When greasing the front and rear wheel hubs, do so sparingly. Normally two or three pressings on the grease gun are sufficient. This to avoid excess grease reaching the brake shoes, through excess pressure.

To lubricate the control cables use a pump type oil can fitted with a plastic tube which is inserted on to the cable nipple. Pump oil until this flows out at the cable ends.

To lubricate the springs, spray with graphited diesel oil. To do this, lift the vehicle, place a support under the vehicle frame so that the springs are free, spray the springs so that the oil penetrates between the leaves of each spring.

When changing the gear box oil, it is advisable to drain this when engine is warm. Unscrew the two plugs, one on the crankcase and the other on the rear gear box cover. Check and clean the magnetic end of the drain plug on the crankcase. The amount of oil required for a complete oil change is approximately 42.30 ozs of BP Energol SAE 90 gear box and differential oil,

When lubricating the front transmission joint sliding yoke, check the state of the protection hose and its clips, this to ensure that no dust or water enter the internal part of the joint.

The amount of oil required for a complete oil change of the rear axle is approximately 6.35 ozs of BP Energol gear and differential oil SAE 90 EP.

During the dismantling or overhauling, thoroughly wash and lubricate with BP Energrease A1 the following parts:
- Front and rear brake control cable levers and linkages.
- Clutch cable lever and linkages.
- Gear control levers and links.
- Reverse gear control links.
- Steering bearings.
- Universal joint guides.
- Transmission shaft sliding yoke.
- Front suspension springs.
- Rear suspension springs.
- Hydraulic brake control lever.
- Front and Rear brake cams and pins
